Research

The NGPRC/NGPRD seeks to improve education in Cambodia by providing evidence-based recommendations.

Research on Mentoring

Initial Report 2019

The research endeavour starts with our own program. In order to improve our syllabus and the institutional framework of mentoring, the NGPRC conducts regular research among our graduate mentor and all the relevant stakeholders in the schools where they operate: school principals, teachers, parents and, last but not least, students.

A first round of research was conducted in 2021. It was funded by the Asia Fundation, through the Ponlok Chomnes program.

The NGPRC was proud to present its findings during a policy talk organized by the Asia Fundation.

In 2024, the NGPRC has conducted a more thorough research to investigate the challenges that mentors face in their real practice. That report was conducted to make policy recommendations on the status of the mentors and explored what is required to establish an enabling environment for mentors to operate smoothly and effectively.

Follow-Up Report (2024)

Preliminary Research Report on Building Better Educators: The Role and Impact of Mentoring Program in Cambodian Public Schools was released in June 2024. Key respondents were 229 mentees In New Generation Schools, Secondary Resource Schools and schools supported by mentors of the Happy Cambodian Children program. It highlighted the utility of mentoring from the perspective of the mentees, and some challenges that mentors face in their respective working environments.

Research on Teacher Needs

In 2025 we conducted a larger survey among teachers in Cambodia, UnderstandingTeacher Professional Development Needs and Developing Teaching Guides forPublic K–12 Educators in Cambodia

This survey reached 2,199 public-school teachers of all levels across the country, not only teachers involved in mentoring. It contributes to our understanding of teachers' priorities regarding teaching methodology, which is one of our main subjects. We use it to refine our training programs and choose which publications we should prepare next.

Other Research

Audit of Anuwat Schools

In 2022, the NGPRC has conducted an audit of the two Demonstration Schools within the NIE campus to identify their challenges and propose an improvement plan. All the stakeholders were considered. For obvious confidentiality reasons, that report is not available to download.

Routine Surveys

Additionally, the NGPRD conducts annually surveys among its students to refine the syllabus. These surveys, often done informally, are not published.
